Mounting Screws with Cage-Nuts (for Universal Square Mounting Holes)

'Universal' rails with square holes require cage-nuts be inserted into the holes to make them useable for mounting equipment.

A cage-nut consists of a steel cage which wraps around the nut, in which the nut is situated in a way that permanently holds the nut in place.  A cage-nut also consists of two spring 'wings' that - once slightly squeezed - fit into a square hole in the rack's mounting rail and, when released, hold the nut in position behind the hole.

M6 Mounting Screws and Cage Nuts

M6 mounting screws and cage nuts fit into square holes in 'universal' rack-mounting rails (with square holes).

The M6 screw has a metric thread size of 6 millimeters, which is the typical thread size for European rack applications.  The M6 screw is larger than both #10-32 and #12-24 screws.

M6 Mounting Screws & Cage Nuts• 50 black screws and 50 zinc cage nuts in a pack
• Phillips truss-head screws
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• 12mm long, with 6mm outside diameter thread
• RoHS compliant
• Made in the USA

#10-32 Mounting Screws & Cage Nuts

#10-32 mounting screws & cage nuts fit into square holes in 'universal' rack-mounting rails (with square holes).

#10-32 mounting screws & cage-nuts• 24 black screws + 24 zinc cage-nuts in a pack
• Phillips truss-head
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• ¾" long, with #10-32 UNF-2B tapping
• 1/16" pilot point for easy application
• RoHS compliant
• Made in the USA

Self-Tapping Mounting Screws

A screw's 'self-tapping' feature refers to its ability to advance when turned while creating its own thread.

Featuring a tapered tip and a gap in the continuity of the thread on the screw's tip, Rackit's T-Type self-tapping screw cuts a thread as the screw is driven into the material, literally drilling away the material, leaving a hole for the screw to go into.

Racks with pre-tapped mounting holes typically get painted (or finished with powder-coat) after the holes have been tapped.  This tends to slightly clog the threads in the holes, making it somewhat difficult to apply 'standard' mounting screws.  Using self-tapping screws makes fastening the screw a lot easier, since the screw's tip removes the extra coating and clears a threaded path for the screw.

Self-tapping screws must be used with racks that are fitted with mounting holes that are not pre-tapped.

#10-32 Self-Tapping Mounting Screws

#10-32 self-tapping mounting screws are typically used for communication-closet applications, in conjunction with racks that are fitted with #10-32 mounting holes.

Self-tapping mounting screws• 50 screws in a pack
• Phillips truss-head
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• ½" long, with #10-32 UNF-2B tapping
• Zinc or black finish
• RoHS compliant
• Made in the USA

#12-24 Self-Tapping Mounting Screws

#12-24 self-tapping mounting screws are typically used with Relay Racks and wall-mount racks that are fitted with #12-24 mounting holes.

Self-tapping mounting screws• 50 screws in a pack
• Phillips truss-head
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• ½" long, with #12-24 UNF-2B tapping
• Zinc or black finish
• RoHS compliant
• Made in the USA

'Standard' Mounting Screws

'Straight-through' threaded mounting screws for use with threaded (pre-tapped) mounting holes.

#12-24 Mounting Screws

#12-24 Mounting Screws are typically used with Relay Racks and wall-mount racks such as Wallit Swing-Out and Wallit Bracket.

• 100 screws in a pack
• Phillips truss-head
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• ½" long, with #12-24 UNF-2B tapping
• Zinc or black finish
• RoHS compliant
• Made in the USA

#10-32 Mounting Screws

#10-32 Mounting Screws are typically used for communication-closet applications, with products such as Wallit Box and Wallit SuperBox.

• 100 screws in a pack
• Phillips truss-head
• Heat treated for strength and for head-stripping resistance
• ½" long, with #10-32 UNF-2B tapping
• Zinc or black finish
